Deep Distance

out now:

gps83 umberto 'welcome to the chillzone' 12" SOLD OUT

from Kansas City, "Umberto" is the killer solo project from Matt Hill, following previous releases alongside Justin Wright in Expo 70 and one of two essential new GPS releases for April, "Welcome to the Chillzone" is unleashed as a limited edition vinyl only press of 500.

previously released as a 150 copy cassette-only release on Solid Melts last Summer, The GPS gives it the supersound 45 treatment on 12" wax and dresses it up in a sweet new fright night sleeve, creating a debut full UK release in the process...

the 12 moves away slightly from Matt's previously lauded full lengths for Not Not Fun and Permanent; "Prophecy of The Black Widow" and "From the Grave..." both of which lent heavy on killer Giallo/Goblin-esque soundtrack work, "Chillzone" as its title would imply, is a more stripped down, eerily ambient, totally icy late night listen.

two equal sides of 10'03" (providing a looped kinda feel for its initial cassette release) with side 2 ending as side 1 begins. to flip onto Side 2 as 1 ends is a must. stunningly chilling synth work recalling in equal measure John Carpenter VHS horror, Klaus Schulze and in places, Popol Vuh.

an incredible record not expected to hang around long...

gps84 the see see 'fountayne mountain' lp LAST FEW COPIES

less than a year on from releasing their debut full length, the mighty "Late Morning Light", The See See return with their second album for The Great Pop Supplement (vinyl) and Dell'orso (CD). aligning a brash love of US West Coast folk rock & psychedelia to latter day European influences (such as Spacemen 3), the band have created a beautifully dynamic album that merges deliciously spun out ballads ("Big Wheels", "Fix Me Up"), with laser guided instrumentals ("Sunbleached") and ritualistic, daisy chained rollercoasters such as "The Day That Was The Day".

this is a band who have now become a lush sum of their parts. led by Richard Olson (who previously fronted acid folk rock band Eighteenth Day Of May) the band have previously shared live shows with the likes of the Raconteurs and The Brian Jonestown Massacre, and in March supported US/Elephant 6 heroes The Olivia Tremor Control on a rare visit to the UK.

the 45 which lit the path for this new full length, "Gold and Honey" again followed the trend for both label and artist of selling out in an instant - and featured the storming kraut themed remix of "Sunbleached" by Eat Lights Become Lights (watch out for their incredible full length on wax for the GPS later in the year!) which propelled the band to previously uncharted waters where Spiritualized meet Neu! via Cave, and attained 6music plays and "single of the week" at a number of online UK outlets...

still available:
gps77 jonas reinhardt 'the prime revealer/only pharoah' 12"

new up on the GPS is a beautiful new Jonas Reinhardt 12" EP - following hot on the heels of their acclaimed Not Not Fun LP "Music For the Tactile Dome" earlier this year (not to mention earlier essential outings on Kranky and KRAAK).

initially a project launched by San Francisco based Jesse Reiner, who began writing and creating analog synthesiser music over 10 years ago whilst studying music synthesis at the Harvard Electronic Music Centre (recently extended to a 4 piece for the road and future recording, by one time and current members of Trans Am, Mi Ami, Citay and 3 Leafs amongst others).

2 deep trip kosmische pieces, heavy on rich Cyborg-esque swells and pulsing drones, expansive simmer and swelling kraut soundscapes aimed for the stars. Hypnotic, warm and melodic with a celestial eeriness. Shades of Froese and Schulze figure for sure, with passing nods also perhaps to some of the later Sky oeuvre; "Sonnenlicht", "Synthesist", later Cluster etc...

cut and mastered at Abbey Road, this one looks just beautiful too. side A of this 12 is cut as a 7" played at 45 and Side B cut as a 10" at 33. 11+ mins of music overall. both sides featuring on disc etching from GPS head, Dom, also at Abbey Road. an incredible record in top opening pro-printed sleeves in a numbered edition of 500 on vinyl only.

songwriter in the world. james jackson toth aka wooden wand shares a mighty split single with the equally great keith wood aka hush arbors. the single has an overall title "swappin'" and it is pretty much essential if we may say so. cunningly sleeved with each others' other halves in "swappin'" guise and with a picture of a neatly made bed on it's insert!

gps38 crayon 'a house is not a horse' 7"

Leeds based three piece Crayon offer up what some longterm GPS devotees may see as a departure to it's usual output.

sombre synth tones and military like drum rolls give way to an infectious, startling pop rush of a chorus. perfect pop in a nutshell. B side 'milk' is a slow building, initially, glitchy electronic piece again with a cool pop sensibility as it's underbelly that soon explodes...

formidable full length of utterly whacked out, psych blues where the ferocity of The Sonics meets the tenderness of Galaxie 500, where the Velvets meet The Modern Lovers via the scuzz of first album Neutral Milk Hotel. a beguiling mix of beautifully tender pop which often descends into fuzz drenched, freakout mayhem courtesy of the most out there, incendiary guitar vibe presently doing the rounds.

JATS core duo consists of Kim and Jeremy from Columbia, MO. Kim's Moe style drums lending perfectly to Jeremy's riotous, devastating guitar mash up. infectious, unforgettable tunes that you will return to over and over.

previous GPS releases with the band were shared 45s with longterm Missouri friends Hush Arbors, and Wooden Wand, and both disappeared in the blink of an eye. 320 copies on numbered, split duo tone coloured wax. packaged as ever with a loving GPS eye. it truly stands alone. get on it!

gps41 the see see 'keep your head' 7"

gps42 the smiles and frowns 'mechanical songs' 7"

beautiful debut 45 from u.s. duo who offer up the very lo-fi, cyclical, almost otherworldly sounding "mechanical songs" backed with the fabulous "echoes of time". 2 irritatingly catchy tunes that stay with ya long after each has ended. think elements of galaxie 500, low, young marble giants, merged with the quieter side of the left banke or perhaps the west coast pop art experimental band. "60s psi-fi pop music" as they have been recently described?! the packaging is something else, amazing die cut op art sleeve with matching label art...

gps43 david a jaycock 'a new love song' 7"

2 beautifully haunting, acoustic pieces from mancunian singer songwriter david a jaycock, following cdr outings on red deer club and early winter recordings and as a member of big eyes family players. "a new love song" on side a, with its almost droning vocal line and fahey-esque picking, features a formidable, spine-tingling banjo line - it's a jaw dropper of a piece. the same can be said of the flip, "that warm feeling in my belly", where this time it's a violin line that gets those pimples down yr spine going. awesome single fabulously packaged in sealed, hand stamped envelope packs that are leaf cut by hand! limited to 300. utterly beautiful on the ear and the eye...

4.99 uk pounds...

gps44 spacemen 3 'dj tones' lp

a one off pressing of 1000 copies on clear vinyl in spot varnished sleeves of last year's quick sell out, space age CD. 5 incredible demos kicking off with the awesome unreleased "these blues"- radically reworked by jason later for the spiritualized "pure phase" album, this version is a stripped way down, 3 chord blues akin to something from third album period velvets. just beautiful and a first time on vinyl.
followed by the stunning violin mix of the red krayola classic "transparent radiation", and arguably the best version yet of "ecstasy symphony", the set also includes the rare 50 copy only, white label mix of sonic's "i love you" remix and an unreleased drone, effect laden "modulated tones."

at last the mighty debut album is out on vinyl - 250 copies in screened sleeves with numbered, handmade inserts. again, last few.....

gps47 spoono 'what's around the corner? more corners' 7"

single of the week at norman records, here's a snip form their review:

What's Around the Corner? More Corners' is a more trippy, freeform piece that begins ambling along like an incredibly happy dog, the chirpy, twangy acoustic guitar being massively soulful & chatty, whilst an old wibbly keyboard gives the impression of some eccentric travelling band strolling down a kaleidoscopic country lane, hazy in the sunshine, then the locals come out clapping and then they realise they have an entire village caught up in their spell, following them, arms raised ecstatically, pied piper-like, spellbound by the delirious sonic fallout!

gps48 melodie du kronk 'moxie carmichael's secret' 7"

this from norman records sums all up perfectly:

"Melodie Du Kronk have a new single out on Great Pop Supplement.. As ever it's amazingly packaged in a psychedelic swirly thing called a sleeve which is hand numbered of 300. It's well nice. Moxie Carmichael's Secret is an odd sounding tune though... When it started I thought it sounded a bit kitsch... as it delves into cheesey exotica. Stick with it though and you'll be treated to a weird kitsch sounding Krautrock epic which takes in elements of Holy Fuck and Cluster and if you're after a comparison it's somewhere in between the afore mentioned folks, Terry & June and Finders Keepers. It's a proper odd little single but it's top fun and it's gonna be one you're gonna pull out over and over again. Well mental cheesepop from the GPS machine!"

gps49 jack rose and the black twigs 'shooting creek' 7"

very limited uk tour single from jack rose backed with the twigs, for sale exclusively on november's uk jaunt, but available mailorder from the label in advance. 2 exclusive tunes recorded in nice lo-fi style in jack's kitchen. Jack's last GPS 45 sold out in 48 hours and because there are just 400 commercial copies of this one - as things stand this looks set to go the same way.

gps50 spacemen 3 'big city' (demo) / wooden shjips 'i believe it' 7"

for it's 50th release the great pop supplement offers up this incredible pairing of like minded spirits, for a total one off split 45. 2 unreleased nuggets from legendary psych rockers from both sides of the pond. the Spacemen tune is a beautiful demo to their last ever single, the mighty "big city." stripped of its lyrical nod to the electric prunes, but still very much displaying the kraftwerk influence of the original, the softer spoken lyrical passages offer up an almost confessional electro blues variant, unique to this early take.

after 2 studio LPs, Wooden Shjips are often bracketed with the Spacemen, with their blissed out Velvets / Doors / Kraut sound - so it's perhaps of no surprise that they should take on a Spacemen gem for their own reworking. "I Believe It" from the classic "Playing with Fire" album gets the nod for a radical overhaul - where the original's predominantly keyboard lead is given the Shjips' guitar fuzz and 2 note organ treatment. a killer take on an old favourite, debuted recently on the road and offered up here as their first outright UK release. packaging as ever with the GPS is from the top drawer, cover art is provided by natty brooker (the original spacemen percussionist) and is from original work put together during his time within the band's first line-up. a pretty much essential and incredible 45, destined not to hang around long...

gps51 yair yona 7"

in circular die cut, numbered sleeves

gps52 GPS enamel badge
100 only.

gps53 c joynes 7"

a 5 single project in collaboration with bo weavil, all in numbered, die-cut sleeves and on split coloured wax, editions of 350 each

gps54 spectrum & tim 'love' lee b/w spectrum & captain memphis (aka jim dickinson) 7" picture disc

next up on the great pop supplement is both a musical and visual mindbender of a 45! a total killer 7' pic disc featuring 2 collaborations between sonic boom/spectrum and tim 'love' lee and captain memphis aka legendary musician (stones/aretha franklin/alex chilton) and producer (big star, etc...) jim dickinson.

hugely acclaimed dj and producer tim 'love' lee and spectrum offer up 'words may shatter', a stunning silver apples/suicide freakout on side a, while the reverse features an unreleased out-take of the mighty 'the lonely death of johnny ace' from a collaborative project between sonic boom/spectrum and captain memphis. recalling the tragic, true story of master bluesman johnny ace who shot himself dead on christmas day 1954 and featuring an incredible vocal from the late, great jim dickinson, this take debuts here.

gps55 dean & britta 7"
'i'll keep it with mine/it don't rain in beverly hills'

i'm sure you'll not need me to tell you that dean wareham was once in galaxie 500 and that britta phillips joined him later in luna, you all know that stuff Iim sure. what you may not know is that at the behest of the warhol museum and the pittsburgh cultural trust last year, dean and britta were asked to create 13 pieces of music as a backdrop to 13 of warhol's legendary screen tests.

the choice of subjects was theirs, only the number was set. believed to have been as many as 500 and all shot at the factory, NYC, between 1964 and 1966, subjects were chosen by warhol believing they had 'star potential'. regulars to the factory such as gerard malanga, lou, ingrid superstar, edie sedgwick and nico as well as people like dylan, dennis hopper, yoko ono, donovan, ginsberg and dali all had the silent film treatment.

dean and britta's task was to choose 13 which make up the gorgeous new album, '13 most beautiful' - from which these 2 tunes were taken. 'i'll keep it with mine' features an incredible britta vocal and was chosen as nico's piece for the full length. 'it don't rain in beverly hills' as it's double A side was picked for edie sedgwick.

the single here is limited to 500 copies and has a hand numbered, booklet sleeve with glorious live shots of the band playing the tunes on the single to stunning backdrops of nico and edie. copies are earmarked for the museum and the imminent tour. the band play london's barbican on July 30th. be quick here, these'll go in the blink of an eye...

gps56 the trimdon grange explosion 7"
'raider/the trimdon grange explosion'

trimdon grange are a london based group formed at the end of 2008, though the members of the group have been playing together in numerous incarnations over the past few years. all four were members of psych-folk-rockers the eighteenth day of may.

in addition to that, alison cotton and mark nicholas's ongoing project the left outsides continues to go from strength to strength, while TG members have appeared on stages and records with - amongst others - saloon, of arrowe hill, matthew sawyer, comet gain, sean jackson, TVPs, soft city, et al...

their debut 45 here, a double A side; 'raider' was written by judy henske and jerry yester (a latter day member of the lovin' spoonful), whilst the reverse from which the band got their name was a tune written in 1882 by the 'pitman poet' of the durham coalfield, tommy armstrong. he sold the song as a broadsheet to raise money for the wives and children of the miners who lost their lives in this disaster.

300 numbered copies in 2 part sleeves with sticker. again, hastiness is advised...

gps57 still corners 7"
'don't fall in love/wish'

following a debut self released CD EP in 2008, London's still corners regroup to a recent fanfare of widespread acclaim for recent killer live shows and a body of mesmerizing new songs, two of which feature on the band's debut wax outing on the great pop supplement. described recently by the guardian as one of the best new bands in Britain, suggesting they may about to become forebearers for a new golden age of indie. so no pressure there, then.

terms such as "dreamy noir-pop", "lush, hazy" and "timeless, reverb drenched bliss" have all been bandied around of late. check out the video for double A sider "wish" online which merely hints at the reason for so much salivating of late. an epic 45 which will disappear in the blink of an eye. 400 numbered copies... ...and a further 300 numbered repressing, also now sold out. 2nd press denoted by being numbered in the top right hand corner by label logo.

gps58 charles douglas 7"
'summertime/good luck'

beginning to appear on many "great lost album" lists of late is the incredible 1999 album "the lives of charles douglas". produced by and featuring percussion from the Velvets' one and only Moe Tucker, with engineering and guitar from UVS' Kurt Ralske. like many great albums before it (and something Moe herself is acutely aware of, of course...) when released - on No.6 records in US - small pockets of listeners fell in love with it immediately but only years later has its true value began to shine.

the single here features 2 insanely catchy, NY pop gems - think a Moe produced collision of Lou, Velvets, Modern Lovers and Beat Happening. all this and it's ridiculously well dressed too - half clear vinyl, half green vinyl, full colour picture labels and numbered out of 300. sweet! hike up the volume in anticipation for a UK release of the full length later in the year on Broken Horse...

gps59 charlie parr & the black twig pickers 7"
'where you gonna' be...'

this one's a beauty. the last time the black twigs toured the UK was just prior to the tragic passing of the late, great jack rose. the twigs provided epic backing on several tours with jack, and it's an honour that they came calling to the GPS for a tour 45 this time round. the band release their incredible full length "ironto special" shortly for thrill jockey.

their UK tour this year is partly in collaboration with the mighty charlie parr. From duluth, minnesota, charlie's incredible (resonator) guitar playing and picking, in accompaniment with his beautifully timeless blues led songwriting make this a dream pairing and this single won't hang around long. pressing of 400 in silver hammer fine art sleeves...

gps60 cwk joynes & the restless dead 7"
'the limehouse golem'

finally ready to roll is volume 2 of chris yoynes' collaborative series of 45s w/ like minded friends and soundsmiths remixing and reworking tunes for the great pop supplement and bo weavil's ongoing 5 part project.

"the limehouse golem" opens to a droning, eastern tinged string and electronic backing over which chris's beautifully meditative faheyesque picking provide epic overlay. backed by the gorgeous "the godolfin arabian", this is truly a beautiful record. packed in stunning, numbered die cut sleeves and on lovely blue wax, this commercial pressing of just 350 copies will disappear super quick.

gps61 eat lights become lights/silver apples
'test drive' split 7"

a total treat for all fans of kosmische electronica and that motorik, kraut groove we all adore. the mighty 3rd 45 from London's Eat Lights Become Lights "Test Drive" follows last year's hugely successful tour round the UK with the Silver Apples. they team up again here for an extraordinary 45 pressed as a square, green wax 45 no less.

side A features the original ELBL take, where it's synth led intro gives way to the most ridiculously catchy guitar riff, endlessly building like some kinda' Neu! / Rother 21st century out-take. a guaranteed earworm that'll nag the hell out of ya, and a perfect taster to the imminent debut full length…

if side A plays it more or less straight, its double A side offers up the most whacked out psych kraut groove. a total killer Silver Apples remix which opens like some bubbling moog fuelled take on the Joe 90 theme intro. soon giving way to hints at that riff- pulsing synths, sped up, slowed down samples, added oscillators- just a total stunner kosmische head rush - and for my money THE most incredible thing Simeon has done for nigh on 40 years.

a total must have of a single. numbered (300) square 45s on green wax w/ sticker and tracing paper inserts, and so thick you can eat yr dinner off it… stereo cosmic music....

gps62 damon & naomi
'walking backwards' 7"

a beautiful 45 from damon & naomi. i'm sure most of us by now are familiar with the story that as galaxie 500 disbanded in 1991, the duo embarked upon a career that included a slew of wonderful releases that began with the "pierre etoile" EP, before several critically acclaimed full lengths on sub pop and their own 20|20|20 label.

"walking backwards" acts as a taster for the new album "false beats and true hearts" (released in may) and once again features the incredible guitar work of michio kurihara (ghost / white heaven).

the exclusive B side features a cover of scott Walker's "the world's strongest man" from 1969's "scott 4" album. released just in time for record store day 2011, the single is released as a numbered edition of 400 copies, and like most other GPS releases isn't expected to hang around long...

gps63 adam leonard LP
'nature recordings'

promised for a long while now, november finally sees the release of this incredible album of rustic, very English, psych folk. boasting not only the songwriting prowess of adam leonard and the playing of the owl service' steven collins but the majestic presence of pat gubler (aka pg six) across this beguiling, charming album.

drawing from a wide ranging, genre crossing mix of inspirations for the record, adam quotes '69 roy harper, tower recordings and klaus wchulze' mighty "irrlicht" album on ohr, alongside a passing nod to syd and robyn hitchcock (check out the killer take on "the man who invented himself").

contractually agreed pressing of just 150 copies in numbered, pro-printed, psych forest sleeves...

gps64 the see see LP
'late morning lights'

following four killer sold out, sought after 45s, London's the see see release their wondrous debut full length on vinyl here through the great pop supplement (home to their first 2 7"'s, with a CD release pencilled in shortly, on dell'orso).

12 stunning tunes recalling the west coast vibe of the byrds and the burritos in their pomp and the pioneering, country / rock fusion of the international submarine band.

personally chosen by jack white for a support slot with the raconteurs and openers for the brian jonestown massacre, the album also features guest slots from the olivia tremor control's bill doss and hush arbors' keith wood.

a dozen super tight, hazy sunshine pop songs make for an epic first full length. think classic prime period elektra label. released in a numbered edition of 250 copies...

NOTE: due to the interest and incredible demand for more of the see see LP, the band and label decided to repress as a 300 copy, coloured vinyl 2nd edition...

gps65 woodcraft folk 7"
'quiet, birds have ears/at home with howls'

woodcraft folk re-emerge from the hills of Lancashire with 2 new tunes for the GPS. "quiet, birds..." is a hazy electronic, vaguely psych work out with vocals by Ivan Ink and Pen. the flip is a wholly different sonic experience. "at home with howls" starts off all strange and hallucinatory but soon the drums, swirling organ and moogs take over - reminiscent of some kraut themed, motorik 60s horror soundtrack.

dressed up in trademark, lovingly created packaging consisting of hand drawn spirograph inserts, hammer card sleeves and half white, half clear wax, numbered to 400 copies, with none of that download or cd nonsense...

gps66 karen novotny x 7"
'ep'

these tunes turned up on cassette recently at GPS HQ from an associate of KN X founder Cy Levine. recorded back in the winter of 1978 in various London locations, on original analogue equipment often borrowed from friends such as Throbbing Gristle's Chris Carter and other sonic DIY/minimal synth luminaries. they remain unreleased until now due to fractures within the band in late 1978.

credited to Cy Levene: voice, synths. Anna Bloom: voice, electronics. Niko: tapes and rhythm machines.

taking their cue from Tonto's Expanding Head Band, Throbbing Gristle, Silver Apples, Suicide, Fifty Foot Hose, Kraftwerk and the burgeoning Industrial Sheffield sound, this EP is an absolute must for fans of The Normal, Thomas Leer, TG and early Human League.

dressed in original collage artwork by Ruth Levene, depicting a host of 70s underground icons. more recordings are being released from the KN X vault, appearing as a GPS LP in 2011. total killer EP, the tracks on which have been remastered from original cassette tape.

released as a limited numbered pressing of 300 7" singles and 30 cassette tapes...

gps67 fuxa/martin rev
split 7"

there's a fabulous 45 pairing like minded spirits, Detroit's fuxa sharing wax with former suicide legend martin rev! not only that but this one's on glorious multicoloured, 'splatter' wax and it comes housed in an anthony ausgang designed sleeve.

fuxa's randall niemann has been creating spaced out, psychedelic electronica for nigh on 15 years now, on this tune "marty suicide" he's joined by former ppacemen 3 and ppectrum members mark refoy and richard formby, on a tune penned as an ode to his heron on the flip. martin rev's "coyote" is a totally beautiful, almost angelic electronic piece - think florian fricke's from the heavens, vocal choir synth sound from "aguirre", sped up slightly with added moog washes...?! 400 copies...

gps68 spectrum/cheval sombre
split 7"

the second of this month's new 45s on the GPS sees a stunning split 45, pairing sonic boom's spectrum with new york's cheval sombre.

the spectrum side sees a debut airing for the full length version of live favourite "mary", previously released as a nagging teaser intro / outro to the great "indian giver" cd collaboration with jim dickinson a couple of years back. a beautiful 7 minute ode to kraftwerk and suicide via a passing nod to stereolab and neu! that debuts on wax and as a full length take here, exclusively. put simply, this is just ridiculously awesome...

the reverse side features an exclusive sonic boom remix of the wonderful "red moon" from the imminent, glorious cheval full length. nyc based christopher porpora has previously released some wonderful singles on static caravan and trensmat, leading in turn to a full length release on dean wareham's "double feature" label.

whether one scribe's term "delicate, druggy, slow core folk" sits true, remains a matter for debate, but either way this has an air of a nick drake tune around it, with added sonic boom elektronik impetus...

gps69 the see see/by the sea
split 7"

one of 2 new 45s on the GPS for June, this one's a split featuring a spanking new tune from the see see backed by a gorgeous debut from new Wirral band 'by the sea'.

"automobile" once again displays the see see's penchant for hazy, sun baked West Coast psych / power pop. hooks-a-plenty, killer backing vocals, and a tidy follow up to the mighty "late morning light" full length that came and went in a week on wax for the GPS, with a CD amassing salivating reviews throughout.

the Wirral's "by the sea" are steadily creating quite a buzz for themselves both on Merseyside and down here in London after a number of stunning live shows, where their (so far), small cannon of beautiful 60s flavoured tunes leave audiences eagerly tipping the band for future greatness. sublime songwriting recalling the left banke, gene clark, the WCPAEB, with subtle nods to that first euphoric moment you heard the stone roses for the first time.

this single could almost only come out late Spring, early Summer - 2 gorgeous tunes in tastily packaged vinyl only. just a perfect pop record and one which saw its release celebrated with a launch show at the perfect setting of the Williamson Tunnels in Liverpool on Sat June 11th. 500 only so be quick...

***1st 100 available at launch night with additional 'Williamson Tunnels' insert/sleeve***

***also available, a stickered 100 copy promo CDR for the first 5 'by the sea' tunes***

gps70 wooden wand 'my week beats your year' lp

the latest in a very long line of essential releases from james jackson toth, sees this brand new collection for the GPS. following 2 treasures from the mighty wand canon previously released on the label over the last 3 years. "my week beats your year" acts as a follow up to fans favourite "born bad" released 2 years ago on mad monk / people in a position to know. a collection of home recordings and demos from various points since 2002 to the present.

an intimate, up close, occasionally stark collection of late night blues, and darkside musings that somehow manage to yet again raise the songwriting bar within the wand catalogue - check out "tribulation fear" and "pale fire". includes one of his most in yr face, confessional tracks ever put to wax - an ace take on jimmy rogers' "sloppy drunk".

an utterly fabulous collection in a sleeve to match - beautiful inside and out pro printed jackets, and brown 70s French lined inners - a killer LP in an edition of 400 numbered copies.

gps71 still corners/the new lines 'split single'

it's debatable if a finer 45 has been released this year so far than this little beauty! utterly stunning new 45 on the GPS from the best new band in the UK - still corners (according to The Guardian) and the best new band in America (according to the GPS!) the new lines.

the last still corners GPS 7" "don't fall in love" came and went in the blink of an eye and has become something of an eBay staple for the unscrupulous wax dealer since, despite repressing. partially leading to the band signing to Sub Pop, where a debut LP and 45 follow shortly. this tune has long been a live favourite and opens their formidable pre 7" CDEP from 2 or 3 years back. "history of love" appears on wax for a first time - following repeated requests to both band and label. beguiling, stylish film noir pop that although maybe tips it's hat in places to the likes of broadcast or the united states of america, equally stands alone just now with a sound uniquely of it's own.

the new lines debut here in the UK, with the mighty "off axis". a taster to the incredible debut LP on the great pop supplement up soon. a magical track, born from the same filmic, 60s themed roots as the still corners. think lothar and the hand people, the US of A, even the zombies, perhaps. subtle electronics, hammonds, killer mystique filled vocals - speaking bluntly, this one is just ridiculously good - and brace yourselves, the album's even better...

7" vinyl only, limited one off pressing of 750 only.

gps72 the new lines 'all the we see and seem' LP

'eagerly anticipated' doesn't begin to cover this one. the killer debut full length from nj / nyc's the new lines finally lands and it's a total gem.

following this summer's taster of a split 45 with still corners, the album delivers on all you'd hoped on hearing the 'off axis' 45. 14 tracks of utterly beguiling, beautifully craft space age pop. psychedelic and cinematic, with widescreen production, which hits you like a myriad of 60s spy movie soundscapes.

a gorgeous amalgamation of lush hammond and wurlitzer keys, with subtle use of analog synth and gently bubbling moog, with added velvet basslines and then fronted by hewson chen's distinctive vocals, this one stands uniquely alone just now. like a further out there broadcast with a super trippy zombies-esque vocal, the new lines conjur up hazey, reverb drenched, super-8 movie feel rhythms at will.

the album is interspersed with several 'between track' soundbites, pointed at the stars yet invariably followed by another swoonsome pop nugget. a beautiful record, released as an edition of 300 vinyl only lps - each with download coupon. last few...

gps73 snails 'she'd like an hour' 7"

next up on GPS is the beautiful debut 45 from Bristol band "Snails". formed in 2010 when Dan Weltman (aka Hollowbody) recruited friend Mog Fry (the Wraiths / Ukeytronica) to help soundtrack a budget slasher movie involving a homicidal nun. sadly no Baftas resulted, but this bonding process led to the creation of several more lost soundtracks; songs centred on two voices projecting a vision of widescreen heartache as seen through rain streaked semi-detached windows. their sound, awash in melancholy folk and sumptuous pop arrangements, bears the influence of mavericks such as Basil Kirchin, Clive Palmer and Moondog. with tips of the hat to Francoise Hardy, the Left Banke and the Pastels.

2 beautiful, very English tunes wrapped up with the usual GPS loving eye for packaging, 300 numbered green wax 45s with insert and sticker and sure to sell out rapid style...

gps74 savaging spires 'bending the rules of time' 7"

a debut on wax from the mysterious Savaging Spires. arriving with next to nothing in the way of names, history or biog notes, this 7" has an almost deliberate dedication to anonymity about it. a stunning 45 featuring 3 tunes of pastoral psych/acid-folk, call it what you will.

an utterly addictive EP, broadly split between standard song structured odes to "the Wicker Man" soundtrack or a passing nod to Espers' druggy edginess- and sound collaged passages with a multitude of instrumentation, veering back through harmonious yet freewheeling boy / girl shared vocals. a mysterious, intriguing EP, beautifully packaged on printed inside and out hammer press card, hand numbered with stickers and on white vinyl. edition of 400 only.

gps75 sylvester anfang II 'perzische tapijten' lp

promised last year and now finally ready to land, The GPS is proud to unleash the epic new full length from legendary Flemish kraut/psych jam masters Sylvester Anfang II.

"Perzische Tapijten" ("Persian Rugs") features 6 super heavy, densely extended jams, deliciously tribal, quasi religious, utterly whacked out pieces that eternally build and pound at the senses. high on lush drones, pounding shamanic rhythms and eastern tinged instrumentation with flittering moogs adding to the "middle of the woods" textures throughout...

recorded on an old farm in Sint-Pauwels (between Gent and Antwerp), in one take with no overdubs, the band strived for a more Eastern vibe and approach than previous releases, which partially explains the album's title.

following several sold out releases across a number of great labels (Eclipse, K-RAA-K, Aurora Borealis, Blackest Rainbow and under their own "Funeral Folk" imprint) the LP isn't expected to hang around long. everything previously from both artist and label is sold out so expect the same here... beautiful pro-printed psych sleeves.

first pressing of 500 sold out. 250 more currently being pressed. pressing denoted by 1st in rougher matt sleeve, 2nd in glossy sleeve...

gps76 by the sea 'waltz away' 7"

next 45 up on the great pop supplement features the debut proper from wirral based by the sea, following the rapid fire selling out of their split 7 with london's the see see this summer.

both sides here 'waltz away' and 'stay where the sun is' point at a mighty songwriting pedigree, belying fully the bands' age and relative 'newcomer' status. put simply, this is classic pop. the a side to these ears owes as much to the west coast pop art experimental band as it does geographical counterparts the pale fountains or the stone roses. as the first chorus hits on 'waltz away', you almost hear the sun burst through the clouds bathing all in it's pristine glow- just a perfect pop moment.

produced by ex-coral guitarist bill ryder-jones and released in a numbered vinyl only edition of 300 in hammer press sleeves with an expected rapid fire sellout. the band are currently recording their debut lp amidst packed out, acclaimed live shows. get on it!

gps78 c joynes & the restless dead '8 selections & premonitions from the tower' vol iii 7"

1 of 2 ace new 45s on the GPS for january 2012, this one is the 3rd instalment of the GPS / Bo Weavil series of C Joynes 45s, featuring collaborative pieces with a disparate group of fellow travellers.

this time around, contributions come from ethno-noise heroes 'harappian nights recordings', fredericksburg VA's sacred harp, and gavin prior of united bible studies. a staggering project where Joynes' renowned playing is backed by an almost anarchic drone-buzz of eastern instrumentation, mood and feel. a truly psychedelic merging of styles, heavily prominent on HNR mainguy syed kamran ali's uniquely scatter gun use of ouds, screeching jouhikkos, finger harp and so on.

a fabulously dense, psych 45 in beautiful diecut sleeve in an edition of just 300 vinyl 45s.

gps79 ampersand '20 seas 4 oceans' 7"

here's a fabulous new 45 on the Great Pop Supplement. a debut on wax from Matthew Hainsby of Fujiya & Miyagi's solo venture, AMPERSAND.

"20 seas 4 oceans" is utterly beautiful. a beguiling, almost playful acoustic intro soon joined by gorgeously ghostly backing vocals and understated bubbling moogs. on one hand childlike and very simple, on another it's slow building, growing sound becomes almost motorik - either way the effect is rather mesmerizing and to these ears is possibly the first great single of 2012.

wonderful stuff and that's before we come to the package! 300 vinyl only 7" singles in hammer press sleeves, each with a screened veneer panel produced by Matt himself with further equally gorgeous additional inserts and odds 'n ends. just fabulous...

gps80 various '8/2/12 gig giveaway' cassette

gps81 the see see 'gold & honey/sunbleached (eat lights become lights mix)' 7"

the second of this month's killer new Great Pop Supplement releases is the new single from London's The See See. following previous "blink and you'll miss it", long sold out releases for the label, this new double A side is a beauty.

"Gold & Honey" is another gorgeously 60s flavoured, timeless pop gem straight outta' the US West Coast lineage of Byrds, Burritos, Buffalos et al and acts as a perfect showcase to the bands' beautiful imminent second LP.

where the A side follows a familiar path for the band, the flip reveals a whole new, previously unmined angle from them. the fabulous 'Eat Lights Become Lights' remix to "Sunbleached" takes them close to some hybrid Kraut/Spiritualized collision and is utterly mesmerizing and a real departure thus far. totally lush and completely captivating, this is a real departure and makes for a stunning double A side.

500 copies in hammer press sleeves, expected to sell out sharpish, so hastiness is recommended!
